Carisbrooke

We walked to Carisbrooke and back today. This was much the same walk that I did a month ago, although we took a different random meandering route through the forest, and instead of popping into the church, we popped into the castle and had lunch (and, um, bought a bottle of subtly mint-scented mead from the gift shop and consumed it on the green). There's still some squelch around, but everywhere is a lot more summery than a month ago, with tall green grass to wade through, instead of stumpy stalks on brown fields.
I liked the name of this newsagent in Carisbrooke, which I feel implies that all other newagents peddle only false news

I took much the same picture a month ago, but the sun was in a more co-operative position today, so here it is again. I think the church tower looks faintly surprised to find that it has a nave attached to it.

Pellinor sometimes claims that all my photos consist of things glimpsed through holes or doorways. This is vile calumny, but is very occasionally true.

View from the ramparts. One of these windows is probably the window Charles I got stuck in while trying to escape, but I can't remember which.

An experiment with taking a selfie, of a sort, courtesy of some unshaven lout who was sitting next to me:

A pretty gateway:

And finally here's the Medina Estuary, on the northern edge of Newport. It wasn't green last time I saw it, only a couple of weeks ago.
