It's very boring to be too ill to actually do anything, but not so ill that you don't want to do things. I am also fed up with being reduced to languishing on the couch just before Christmas, when there are dinners with stuffing and sausages wrapped in bacon (aka two of my Best Things Ever) to be had. That's two years in a row that I've missed a Morris dancing boozy Christmas feast. Grump!

Oh, and is anyone else not getting LJ comment notifications? I've had none since, um... Tuesday, I think?

At least I can just about cope with rereading well-loved favourite books, as long as they don't get too challenging. Sadly, I've reread (or, rather, re-re-re-reread) most of my well-loved favourite non-demanding books in the 6 months or so (my favourite Georgette Heyers, Diana Wynne Joneses, Sherwood Smiths, Elizabeth Marie Popes, Hilary McKays, Jaclyn Moriartys and so on) so am doing quite a lot of standing swayingly while staring at shelves failing to find much inspiration.

Oh, poor you. *hugs* Here's hoping you feel better soon, 'cos that doesn't sound like fun at all.

Not sure this advice is sound, but then, what else do you expect from a squirrel?

Definitely not sound advice in my case, since I'm allergic to nuts. But what can you expect from one of those dastardly grey squirrels. We're very proud of our grey-free status here on the island. Some years ago, a local DJ almost lost his job (or maybe even did lose his job; I can't remember) for joking on air that he'd seen a grey squirrel, prompting the army, coastguard and emergency services to all be mobilised to look for it.

Hopefully I'll be off the couch soon. I've got an inner ear infection, causing the world to spin, and me to lurch around drunkenly and bump into door frames and cats. I even went to the doctor (very out of character behaviour for me) and he's ordered me to rest completely until it gets better in its own time, so hopefully it's own time will hurry up and come quickly.

Yes, can't trust those grey squirrels! You're so lucky not to have any on the island and still have a native red population! First wild red squirrel I ever saw was on holiday in the IOW as a child, in the woods at Robin Hill Country Park.

Ugh, ear infections are horrible. *more hugs*

Agh! See how ill I am? I can't even fight off the ravages of the rogue apostrophe!

Comment notifications seem to be working fine here. Possibly a daft question, but have you checked your spam folder?

Interesting. I did check my spam folder a few days ago, and there was nothing there. There are no LJ comments in the spam folder that shows up when I check my Gmail through my usual email program, but I've just gone to the Gmail website, and sure enough all the missing LJ comments are in the spam folder there.

Or, rather, I was sure there was nothing there... because of course now the comments do show up in the Spam folder. I could swear that I'd checked several times and there was nothing there. Um... perhaps I was checking "bin" not "spam"? I blame being ill.

I came in here to say 'my LJ comment notifications are all present and correct' but now I know that you have discovered yours so all is well.

So all that is left is for me to leave you a wonderous radish.

Ooh, a wondrous rabbit! Gah, cursed fingers: I accidentally started "radish" with "rab" so my fingers helpfully provided me with the rest of the word they thought I wanted. Who needs LJ comments when they've got a wondrous rabbit? Aaagh! It's doing it again! Radish. RADISH.

It actually took me an annoyingly long time to persuade Gmail that LJ comments weren't spam. Adding lj_notify to contacts didn't work. It just kept on telling me that I'd told it that emails from lj_notify were spam (I hadn't) but refused to tell me how to say, "No! I've changed my mind! Welcome them back to the fold!" But my phone just gave a nice happy tinkle, telling me that your comment had just arrived, so all is well again. :-D

Ugh, that stage of being ill is the worst - I hate it when I'm looking at the bookcases and being all "... yeah ... " You feel better soon - I hope a book leaps out at you! :)

Hope you're soon feeling better!

'Tis a terrible thing to find yourself staring apathetically at your bookshelves.

I first read that as "alphabetically", and wondered how else you would expect Elaine to arrange her fiction ...

I'm afraid my fiction isn't arranged alphabetically at all. It's broadly by genre, but the order within genre is fairly random, although all books by an author are together. History is chronological, and general non-fiction (i.e. anything that isn't history or folklore) is very roughly in Dewey order, but fiction is a bit of a mess. Pellinor's is in alphabetical order, though. I blame the fact that I do quite enough of that at work, and can't be bothered to do it at home, too. :-)

Hoplology is broadly chronological.

Hope you feel better soon!

I am currently working my way through Bernard Cornwell's Warrior series. It is basically Sharpe with Vikings instead of French but well written, great characterisation, lots of fun.
