There were loads of snowmen around today. It was very snowy snow, all squeaky to walk on, and good for shaping things with. What surprised me most, though, was the number of children with sledges. Keeping a sledge on the Isle of Wight must be the very definition of optimism.
I liked its expression, too. It was very much a ginormosnowman - about 7 foot tall. I more than half expect it to come to life tonight and start prowling around the cemetery, making friends with whatever unearthly creatures walk there at night.
Ours started taking on a verging-on-slushy feel to it in the late afternoon, but is still Proper Snow out in the fields. But heavy rain is forecast for the very early morning, so doubtless it will all be swept away and replaced with gloom. There's nothing so grey and boring as an Outside just after a thaw, I think.
