All sorts

I'm never really much held with St Valentine's Day, but today was just the right day for it. I drove out to West Wight beneath a lovely blue sky, and it was one of those journeys that reminds me that I do live on a very lovely island, after all. I then did a storytime in a library that was so warm the windows were opened, and birds were singing merrily outside. When I left, I noticed that crocuses and snowdrops had appeared as if from nowhere, and were rampaging prettily across the lawn. It's like a different season from last week, and it's hard to believe that only five days ago I was scraping ice off the car.

Now, my Freedom of Information Act training tells me that I should never mix two subject in one email, since that will make things harder if someone puts in a FOI request in five years' time, but I don't really think this is likely, so...

Three things that make me go grr!
1. People who think that indicating is for wusses, and sit there watching you patiently giving way to them, then turn off before they reach you.
2. The fact that a certain supermarket has taken to putting "Contains nuts" on all their foods, even though a thorough reading of the ingredients reveals this to be a total lie. I'd boycott if, if I could be bothered.
3. The fact that it is virtually impossible to buy foods that don't contain red peppers. The nasty things lurk even in food that have no right to contain red peppers, like tuna and sweetcorn pasta salad.

I'm also going grr about the fact that I can hardly ever access LJ from work now, not due to it being blocked, but internal server errors. However, on the bright side, my afternoon storytime was in Cowes, meaning that I could come straight home after it finished, so I'm home an hour early. I also remembered to use my "get your parking refunded if you spend £5 on food" voucher in the local shop. Normally I clutch it in my hand all through the shop.. and still have it clutched in my hand after I've left.

I came home to find that Pellinor has received something that's hand addressed, in a bright red envelope. Maybe his other woman is getting careless...

EDIT: Pellinor's "Valentine's card from his other woman" turned out to be a Valentine's Day themed advert for Sky TV, cunningly hidden in a hand-written envelope with a stamp on. I think lonely people might be driven to suicide by an advert like that. First the hope... then the crashing disappointment.

I hate it when people don't indicate, I would shoot them on sight if I had my way, granted that would probably cause more traffic problems, but it would be immensely satisfying and I bet people would get the message pretty quickly :-)

Also the red peppers thing annoys me too, I'm not overly fond of them either, though I dislike green peppers more. Fortunately Bacchus likes them so he tend to end up with extra bits. I also hate it when people put raw onions or spring onions in things like salads and sandwiches. Bleugh!

If you object to the prevalence of peppers (any colour) you should try avoiding raw/undercooked tomatoes! They are the devil's food:
1) They are stuck in EVERYTHING
2) They ooze tomato juice and nasty-tasting seeds everywhere, so removing them usually isn't enough
3) Have I mentioned they are stuck in everything? It is well-night impossible to find a sandwich without them.
