Cider puns

I need resolution to some terminal dithering. Which cider pun should I use for my next Booze Banner? The aim of the banners is to make people chuckle, but the slogans also need to be easily illustratable in felt. Simple stylised images in only one or two colours are easy; realistic-looking human figures are very hard indeed. (See examples here, out of which the knight and the tiger were a complex "never again!" experiences, whereas the tart was lovely and quick and easy.) The reference should ideally be understood by both of the banner's target audiences: folk festival attendees, and a horde of live role-players.

[Poll #1754320]

I quite probably won't end up going along with whatever answer this poll suggests, but instead will use it as a tool to reveal my own preference. If I find myself reacting with disappointment to one particular answer's low score, then it will reveal what my preferred choice was all along.

My favourite is actually 'Ghost ciders in the sky', but 'Ciders of Rohan' is probably more recognisable to that audience.

For want of a horse, the cider was lost.

Or is that too long?

Rough Ciders (makes too much sense!)

Ciders of the Purple Sage (hmmm... sounds like an interesting drink. Might make a nice sauce for pork if it turns out undrinkable).

But another definte vote for Ghost Ciders.

I have a soft spot for "Ciders of Rohan." I can see banners with various ciders on them, like the horse banners in Meduseld.

Hmm, banners... I like Ciders of Rohan, too, but my main concerns with it have been, A, whether all the folk festival crowd will get the reference, and, B, how on earth to illustrate it within the limits of the medium of felt. But banners could be the way to go...

This is why I feel Ciders of the lost ark is a good contender - it should be easy to felt, and presents a comic juxtaposition even to people who don't get the pun or don't find it funny.

Ciders on the storm and Ghost ciders in the sky have similar juxtapositions but seem harder to felt.

Anything that makes reference to spiders might risk alienating arachnophobes?

My main worry about Ciders of the Lost Ark (apart from the dodgy pun) is that the obvious image (the Ark of the Covenant with cider bottles on) might offend for religious reasons. But I do like it... *dither dither dither*

Some of those would be a bit out of place in Ithron IMHO. I'm not sure there is a lost ark there - though I'm sure someone could invent one for plot. However anything likely to cause religious offence usually has in the past and they're likely to be very vocally offended by it too... I don't know whether we have Mars in our skies or if we do, whether we call it that :-) Similar thoughts over Rohan, and anything Spiderman-related could well get hailed as a depiction of a Krygonite abomination...

Realise I'm too late, but wanted to vote anyway :-p After voting, looked ahead to see if you mentioned what you'd gone with - very nice :-)
