St George's Day singing
Apr. 24th, 2007 12:29 pmLast night, we went out with one of our Morris sides for our annual St George's Day dinner. (I posted last year about my mixed feelings about celebrating the day (see here, if you wish), so won't repeat that here.) The pub had put on a special St George's Day menu, which showed why British cuisine isn't renowned for sophistication, healthiness and subtlety – but is very tasty, even so. The choice was bangers and mash, fish and chips, bacon and onion dumpling, or potato and stilton pie (with potatoes.) Pudding choices were treacle pud and custard, apple pie and custard, trifle, or cheese. It was all very nice. The only down side was the late night after cider, followed by the alarm going off at 5.30 this morning so Pellinor could get to The Mainland.
After dinner, we sang. Just to counter those claims that English people don't ever sing any English songs, here is a list of probably around half of the songs we got through.
