I'm being menaced by a cranefly! I know they can't hurt me... But when I glance up and see a cranefly in extreme close-up, flying directly at my face... and I jump up, squeaking, and can no longer see it... Is it down my shirt? In my hair? In my mouth? And I have just settled down again, fingers poised to resume writing... when it starts on another circuit of the room and the whole thing is repeated all over again.

Why is it that flying and/or scuttling things with longs legs are so scary, even when our rational mind tells us that they can't do a thing to hurt us?

Ewwwww. I hate them. They are much worse than spiders. Also, bits drop off them.

Spiders have generally only mastered two dimensions. Cranefly have the full set of three dimensions to come at you from, which is what makes them fearsome (as well as the shoddy workmanship of their legs.)

Oh! Honeycat has just wandered in and solved the situation in a brutal but pragmatic fashion: by eating the culprit. And - ick! - she now has cranefly legs stuck to her chin.

Ack! I'd be cowering in another room right about now. If what you call a cranefly is what we call a cranefly, those things are huge.

Hurrah for Honey, triumphing over the evil bug! See, cats are good for something after all. ;-)
