Okay. Imagine that you've been told to wave a hankie above your head in a circular motion - i.e. a bit like the way you'd mime using a lasso, minus the need to throw it at the end. Have a go now, using your right hand. (The hankie can be imaginary.) Don't think about it, just do it however feels natural.
Which direction did it rotate? Did you go clockwise (i.e. forward, right, back, left) or anti-clockwise (i.e. right, forward, left, behind)?
I ask because in the jig we were learning last night, I had immense trouble with my hands. Throughout the dance, we had to wave our hankies in circles above our head, with the right one going clockwise and the left one anticlockwise. It felt so wrong and unnatural to me, and the moment I stopped concentrating fiercely, I reverted to the opposite direction. I was wondering if this was just me, or if there is indeed a more natural direction. I'm right-handed, by the way.
