Snarling with frustration

Grr! This should not be hard! All I want to do is order two packs of the new edition of the Game of Thrones card game, one for me, one for Pellinor. But can I do it?

Firstly, most sites don't even sell the packs individually, but only sell display boxes that contain a dozen packs. Fine if I'm a shop, but I'm not a shop. I'm just me. I don't want or need a dozen.

Secondly, those few that do sell individual packs don't offer you any chance to specify which pack you want. Starter decks come in six different types, because you can choose to play the game as one of six different warring families. If I can't specify on ordering, presumably I'll get a random pack, which means that there's only a one in six chance that it will contain cards I can actually use.

Grr! Do these people actually want my money?

Try emailling them? It's surprising how many fairly large and shinylooking ecommerce sites actually have one bloke, his wife and his brother in law sitting behind them. If they also have an ebay shop, that's usually a dead giveaway.

I'd bet the reason they do the 'random pack' thing is that otherwise they'd have to enter 6 times as many sets of details, and they can't be bothered, OR they don't have individual photos for each of the packs and it would take too long to split them.

Try the Gameskeeper (http://www.gameskeeper.demon.co.uk/). I know the people running this shop. They are very helpful and if they do the games (as well they might) they'll do their best to help you out. If they don't seem to have the games in stock email them, like [livejournal.com profile] bunn suggests.

Thanks for the suggestion. Their website hasn't been updated for five years, so email or a phone call is in order. Is this the same shop that was there many years ago? I remember a really good games shop on Cowley Road. I bought "Junta" there in about 1991... *pauses to wallow on nostalgia*

Yes, same shop. C. the Keeper mentioned to me that she was updating her site last time I was there, but clearly it hasn't quite come to fruition yet. Good luck with getting your games!
