Paladins and annoying kings
Sep. 11th, 2005 08:41 amAs usual, an RPG and dancing theme to weekend. This afternoon we're Morris dancing and Mumming at the Bestival - a festival where most of the people attending will most definitely not be expecting to see Morris dancing. We did it last year, though, and a bunch of very young and trendy people thought we were incredible. We've never had a more enthusiastic audience. (I do wonder, though, what they thought when they looked at the photos the next morning!)
As for RPGs, our Ars Magica GM wants to take a well-earned rest, so that group is going to be D&D-ing for a few weeks instead. I've never played D&D except in Baldur's Gate, NWN, and other computer games, so it'll be interesting. As usual, I'm going to be playing a dumb-but-righteous paladin.
I created my character after a bottle of wine, and so the character sheet contains things like: "Hair: Very pretty. Height: Manly. Skin: Smooth, but not girly. Equipped weapon: A greatsword of coolness. And so on...
Apart from that, we spent a lot of yesterday playing Guild Wars. It's one of those annoying missions when you have to keep an NPC alive, and the entire mission ends if he dies, and you have to go back to the start and play the entire long thing again.
Our NPC is this ( really annoying dwarven king )
Ah well. At least we can be comforted by the fact that this mission is notoriously hard (at least judging from all the "how to beat Thunderhead Keep" threads there are out there on forums.) Maybe I should "accidentally" drop something loud just outside the bedroom door, so
king_pellinor will wake up and we then can have a couple more attempts before going out. If my character hadn't been cruelly abandoned by his lazy tour companion, I just know I would have been able to succeed this morning. I just know it.
EDIT: Woo-hoo! We completed the mission successfully, when having just one quick go, in the short time between the Bestival, and going out to D&D.
There were some very strange people at the Bestival, but I suppose they would say the same of us. Channel 4 filmed us for a bit, dancing on a small, round overhead walkway thing, over an inflatable church.
