From a website of children's work done in libraries:

What will librarians be like in 2150?
- Dead
- They will all be really old and not able to walk
- Robots (this is a very popular answer)
- There will be a hotel next to the library. The librarians will do the night-time entertainment for people in the hotel
- They will wear purple skirts and peach blouses
- They will all be skating around on rollerblades
- They will be like giant jelly babies. When they get hungry, they will eat each other, but they will grow back later
- They will have 7 arms (to carry the books)
- Big, hairy and scary

Well, lunch time is almost over, so back to my training course (which, as you can guess, is on how to use this subscription-only website for children's book reviews and creative writing.)

EDIT (and irrelevant): GRRM fans who aren't members of the relevant GRRM communities might be interested to see this. No, it is not news of the new book, so don't get your hopes up...

Sounds like a pretty accurate description of librarians now to me. ;) Are a hotel and skate around on rollerblades? Exactly like old Mrs Warburton at the local public library. (Thank you for sharing that, it gave me a good laugh!)

GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire series is something I've been meaning to read for some time. After the wailing and gnashing of teeth that has recently convulsed the DiR fandom, though, I'm a bit suspicious of news of book to film transfers. On the other hand, if it's made for TV and the author himself is involved...

But is Mrs Warburton providing "night time entertainment" to local hotel guests? ;-)

I'm very suspicious of book to film transfers. My initial reaction today was to go "Oh no!", not "Woo-hoo!" like everyone else seems to be doing. I have a very personal and emotional relationship with my favourite books, and a film of it feels almost like an invasion of my privacy, in some strange way. It's imposing someone else's take of the story onto my own, personal take on it - if that makes any sense. However, a long TV series is at least preferable to cramming everything into one movie.

Though I don't think any book-to-film transfer can be quite as horrendously awful as that Dark is Rising one looks like it's going to be.

I'm not sure. I shall make a note to inquire when we next meet. ;)

Though not in the DiR fandom, I've read and enjoyed the books and really am not looking forward to the upcoming mutilation. It's so painful. Like you, I'm suspicious of book to film transfers. So often, the people responsible for the adaptation either don't understand or else look down on the material they're working from and somehow think they can do better than the original author. I hope that GRRM will keep a firm eye on the production.

Unfortunately, a TV series isn't always a good sign. I've read the reviews of the Earthsea programmes, and Le Guin's own comments, and, well...*winces*
